Not necessarily new as in MMA, but maybe just to the UFC. They hated when Jon Jones was getting a following after tearing through people en route to Shogun.
They hate Conor McGregor now (Although that may be because his level of hype got kinda ridiculous to the point where his fans were saying he'd beat Aldo after the Brimage fight).
They refused to acknowledge that Glover Teixeira was a beast, just because his hype. It was hype after he laid waste to Kingsbury. It was hype after he sent Maldonado to the hospital. It was hype after he dominated Rampage (Even though people were saying he'd lose to Rampage before the fight) It was hype after he choked out Te Huna. It's hype after he knocked out Ryan Bader in the first.
People refused to even entertain the thought, and got mad at people who thought Frankie Edgar could beat BJ Penn after Frankie dominated Sherk.
People just seem to think that if you haven't beaten someone top 10, you're still garbage, but that's not always the case. It's not necessarily who you beat, but how you beat them. That's why Glover had that hype, because he wasn't just barely beating these mid level guys, he was destroying them.
Also everything has to be hype, instead of a guy just being a great fighter. They always want to see the guy that's been on a rise, and gaining a following lose. and why? Shouldn't people WANT to see new talent rise to the top? Is it a new vs old kinda thing?
Sorry if I kinda ranted there
