I mean who else has a shot at actually beating Mayweather??? The promoters and Floyd are all about making as much money as possible. The only way you make money is if the public thinks the guy could beat Floyd.
Gennady Golovkin
27-0 with a 89% KO ratio. the highest ratio of any active champion!
The Floyd fans will buy the fight to see him out-technique another heavy hitter. The Floyd haters will line up around the block to see Floyd get Ko'd by the much bigger much much much more powerful Golovkin. Hell...even I think Gennady has a chance of winning by KO...a slim one. in any case, it would be a better fight and make more money then any other fight out there right now. Who else is there?
Martinez? I don't think the aging Martinez would fair well at all. I think the average fan would agree that it would be all Floyd. Plus, Martinez' last fight was not confidence inspiring. Gennady's entire career has been confidence inspiring!
Garcia? I respect the hell out of Garcia...and think he has a snow ball's chance in hell of beating Mayweather. I think most would agree and thus it wouldn't make as much money either. Another thing that we have to think about....half the reason everyone was so hyped about Canelo was that he had the ability to KO Floyd...if he could catch him. Golovkin is even a greater KO threat. Garcia or Martinez KOing Floyd...who really thinks that is a serious possibility?
Pacman? His KO loss is too fresh in everyone's mind. Floyd needs to wait for Pacman to win a few...which I think he will. Take the Golovkin payday and then get the Pacman paper after that.
Khan? I respect what Khan has done and the way he has reinvented himself a bit as of late. but come one...who we kidding? Khan/Mayweather has one-sided tooling written all over it. Could it sell in the UK? Yep...the gate would be sick across the pond. But the Vegas gate for Mayweather/Golovkin would be solid and the PPV numbers would be way way way batter for a Golovkin matchup.
Alvarez 2? Not yet...I like Canelo, but he looked even more lost then I expected him to look out there. A for effort bro...but he isn't ready for a rematch. It would be more of the same.
I can't even think of anyone else that would even make sense even as a pitch.
The only real problem is weight. I don't think Golovkin can make a Mayweather weight. Which would mean Money would have to g up or agree to a catch weight of some kind. Not sure if it would workout, but if they could make the weight work I think the Golovkin fight makes the most sense. Thoughts?
