Years ago I competed in tough man contests (please dont flame me, Ive gotten better since then, I hope)
after a few of them you started the see familiar faces in the back and never knowing when you were going to be called to fight you started talking, any way one of the guys Id see occasionally told me that they were fixed. I didnt believe him at first because 2 people in a ring fighting seemed like the most fair matchup known to man but then he told me
The promoter who is running the contest is supplying and paying the referee and the judges. He also has a stable of local Amateur talent and he has one fighter in each weight class compete in each event. If theyre ready to turn pro he splits the purse with them when they win or they can give it all back if they want to keep their amateur status. Because of the short rounds, headgear and 16 oz. gloves it is difficult to KO an experienced amateur fighter so usually the fights go to the judges who score the promoters boxer the winner if they want to get paid. Sadly, any tough man contestant that might give the promoters boxer problems is eliminated on his or her first fight so as to not risk a possible upset. So all the money from the gate and half of the purse or usually all of it go back to the promoter and the amateur guys get a work out and some crowd experience.
I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to how Professional boxing is fixed. I mean I can speculate, but I want to hear some specifics.
