Imagine Lawler beats Hendricks and becomes the new champion. Then, the UFC decides to do Diaz vs Lawler for the belt in mid-late 2014.
As much as people on here would complain about Nick getting a third consecutive title shot after losing the first two, I see this as a real possibility. Nick has made it clear he only wants title shots or big matchups, nixing a potential #1 contender fight with Carlos Condit.
Dana White is a promoter and he knows how to sell fights/make the UFC money. And Nick Diaz has proven his value as a potential draw: UFC 158 was the biggest ppv of 2013 (so far), the third-biggest ever, and the biggest one headlined by GSP, former ppv king (#1 and #2 were both headlined by Brock Lesnar).
And Lawler very well could beat Hendricks. I think Hendricks should be the favorite going in, but not by a huge margin.
And if you wonder whether Diaz can beat Lawler, all you have to do is watch their first fight. The fight was awesome, and I think the UFC will jump all over a rematch if Lawler becomes champ.
The truth is, there is a very real possibility that you'll see Nick Diaz with UFC gold around his waist in 2014.
