In my opinion of course; someone who has just lost the title or lost a title fight should not fight the #1 contender. Unless the lost title fight was razor close or super controversial. For two reasons. We could lose a contender and still not gain a contender. Which is what happened.
I know the contender (sometimes) wants to keep busy, but surely the brass can come up with a better option. Who would turn it down if offered? Another contender would jump at the chance (see: Faber) and either outcome would leave us with a contender. Even if it means (ufortunately) scrapping a lesser fight to make the better fight. Hey, it's happened.
I am not butthurt (I am a Diaz fan) I like both fighters and think they gave a good account of themselves. Who I think won is irrelevant. Hating on Bendo is silly by the way people, he didn't render the decision and he is a good fighter/person. I accept the result of the fight, just not the outcome in regards to the division.
Bonus Q?
Gatekeeper? Do they block the top 10? Top 15? Top 5? Is there one gate keeper at a time per division. Is there a few? Does beating one jump the others? Or you need to beat a couple? Is it a real loose description up for interpretation like P4P?
Thanks
