Who was the first champion in MMA to call out another champion in a different weight class and actually ended up fighting?
First person that comes to mind is B.J. Penn versus GSP 2.
There's other fighters before that but can't think of any that were champs. Another BJ case was when he called out Hughes and beat him for the belt back in 2004. However, BJ wasn't champ at LW at the time. I think he fought Uno and ended in a draw, and the belt was vacated after some legal disputes for Penn. He did beat Hughes and won the belt.
Other cases was Wand & Chuck. They were both in the same weight class, just different organizations. Wand and Chuck were both ready after they called each other out. Pride and UFC were being careful about the risk.
I'm sure Randy called people out but I don't know who.
The super fights that I wish could happen soon would be amazing for the sport. Super fights now is at its best considering the talent involved.
