There was a time when many fighters did not know what to do in front of a guy with great takedowns like GSP and some other guys like that.
Most elite guys are now pretty good at sprawling, etc.
In recent times, I have been surprised to see how Josh Thompson was able to throw Bendo on his ass pretty easily with throws (and with one good hand). I always saw Bendo guy as having a really balance, etc. Good ole' Punk did his homework for sure.
Yesterday, I was blown away by Lombard. If someone would have told me that Lombard would toss Jake Shield around like a rubber doll time after time, I would have asked him if he had smoked a couple of big bongs with Joe Rogan.
I know Lombard is strong like an Ox but his throwing technique is smokin good.
It will be interesting to see if more fighters will brush up on their judo in the next few months... I am sure most coaches paid attention to what they say yesterday.
Other than Rousey, Big Dong, Lombard and Thompson, who else do you see as having some pretty solid judo-style throws?
Also, do you see is as a potential new trend, a bit like when GSP kind of brought the boxing jab to a new level for MMA?
