I've recently started training a friend of mine and have been blown away by his sheer natural strength potential. A little background on my friend:
He has never lifted consistently in his life, although I did get him to work out with me a handful of times a few years ago. Never played any sports, the closest thing to strength training he's ever done is hold a job moving mattresses years ago. I've always told him he had the perfect genetics to be a powerlifter, you can just see in the way his frame is built that he's more bear than human, but he's been completely sedentary for many years now and has become rather obese (~350lbs) and has a host of pains and health problems associated with his terrible diet and lifestyle. Finally after years of suggesting it I've convinced him to start working out and to lose some weight, so I helped him set up a home gym.
Now, I knew this guy had the potential to be strong, but even so his progress has shocked me. In only ~2 months of somewhat random lifting (he doesn't even follow a program), he can:
High bar full squat 315lbsx5
Deadlift 455lbs
Strict OHP 175lbs
He was literally OHP'ing 135 for reps the very first time he ever touched a bar. He pretty much deadlifted 405lbs as soon as he got the form down, only like his 3rd session or so he will be deadlifting 5 plates very soon, a feat which took me *many* years of hard training to accomplish, albeit at a much lower bodyweight. It's almost discouraging to see someone who has clearly so much more natural potential than yourself begin to surpass you almost without trying.
So I say to you, what's the most naturally beastly guy you've encountered? What are your stories of sheer monstrous genetic potential?
