While the fighters are incredible today in terms of how rounded they are and there technique, a big part of me misses the days of Pride and UFC were competing against each other. It felt like there were fewer cards but most cards were a higher quality, also potential super-fight discussions were about fighters in the same weight class (i.e Silva v Couture) instead of today where any super-fight discussion requires a fighter to go up or down whatever weightclass is resides in.
Also while I love watching MMA, however the amount of shows that UFC puts out just feels like at times the cards are watered down. Having that competitor there forced good cards by both companies. I am not saying every card was great but it put more pressure to have higher quality cards IMO.
