Does beating a legend make u a legend?

Joe Rogan seemed to think so when Cain KO'd Big Nog.
Thing is, Frank Mir did it before Cain did, so is Mir a legend also?
Then JDS came along, KO'd Cain, became champ, then TKO'd Mir, so is JDS also a legend for finishing 2 legends?
Then we have Fabricio Werdum who subbed Fedor, beat Roy Nelson, then subbed Big Nog, so is he also a legend for beating 1 legend & finishing 2 legends?
How about Roy Nelson recently KO'ing Big Nog, is Roy Nelson now a legend also?
Then again there's also Big Foot who TKO'd Fedor, so he must also be a legend too, correct?

If this is all true, in total we currently have 6 'legends' competing in the UFC HW division.
Sounds, ridiculous doesn't it?
My conclusion is that beating a legend doesn't make u a legend!
Agree or Disagree?

How does one truly become a legend then?
Winning/defending the belt?
Number of title defenses?
Quality of title defenses?

Can someone please clarify the legitimacy of this 'legend' status for me?
Opinions/Thoughts?
