Everlast MX gloves

Everlast MX gloves: "Maximum power with reduced padding" according to the manufacturer.

Has this issue ever come up before - regarding the disparity between different gloves? Leonard Ellerbe (Mayweather Promotions CEO) mentioned that distribution of the padding was one issue, and that the MX gloves were thinner around the knuckle area than other gloves of the same weight. The horse hair fiber is also (puportedly) heavier than traditional foam thus thinner gloves.

Do these gloves give a significant competetive advantage over traditional ones?
