Wasn't very fun. I've ate stiff jabs to the nose before (which actually hurt a lot more, despite having less power), but because I've never actually been hit flush with a good power shot it was an interesting experience.
It was unexpected, completely, because we were sparring knockdown rules with no punches to the face, I had my hands in position to block the punch to the chest and instead of blocking they guided his fist right onto literally the cleft of my chin.
It was interesting because although it was KD rules I ate two spinning backfists to the skull and an uppercut along with the cross... not really mad about it, more my fault for being in range.
Anyways there's a point to this...
The moment the fist hit my chin I freaked out thinking like "that's right on the button I'm probably going down" and I did go down but I wasn't dizzy or anything it just felt like a lot of pain all the sudden in the jaw that overwhelmed me momentarily but was also gone in literally probably 2 seconds, as a result I stumbled to the ground then was able to get back up.
I always thought that all knockdowns in MMA and boxing/whatever happened when the lights get shut off, at least very temporarily.
But does it also happen occasionally just due to the shock and pain of the unexpected strike?
I'm curious about this because I'm wondering if that kind of shot you have to focus on sucking up and eating it as a fighter or if that is something that knocks down actual fighters too.
Basically I'm wondering if fighters get knocked down by headshots in fights without getting the lights turned off?
