After reading through the 'biggest disappointment' thread... I was tempted to post two games that I was very disappointed after beating them once. But a few months later I played them again, and again, and again some more... and eventually became two of my favorite games ever.

Knights of the Old Republic 2 -The Sith Lords
Kotor is one of my favorite games of all time, so I was highly suspicious of the sequel being developed and released by a separate company within 18 months of the original's release. So I bought it, played it, and at the end, I was like 'WTF?!?' I was so disappointed, I didn't play it again for months.
But when I did, I learned of the alternate characters/companions, developing their relationships, sparing instead of killing the Jedi Masters has a completely new Dantooine sequence near the end. I spoke to Kreia far more often and learned more about her and the backstory of the game... and I enjoyed the 2nd playthrough multiple times more than the first time around.

Mass Effect 2
Similar story as with Kotor2, except I enjoyed ME1 a little. And ME2 less so the first time around. The gameplay was much better, but I didn't talk to my squadmates much (yeah, I know, it's a big requirement in RPGs apparently). While I did seduce Miranda, she and most of my squadmates died in the finale... didn't put me in a good mood.
Few months later, I'm surfing on the web and read about how doing my squad member's loyalty mission greatly improves their chances of survival, there was a Miranda/Jack cat fight I missed out on, ways to seduce Jack and Tali, there's even a way that no one survived the final mission... Even Shepard... this I had to see... and see I did.. many times over. I now rank ME2 as my 2nd favorite RPG of all time behind KOTOR.
How about you guys? Any games you were completely disappointed after completing, but further playthroughs were significantly improved?
