Which is the more effective art under this rule set? (very short clinch time, no elbows, no points given for throws/takedowns)
Some points to consider...
Sanda has a more side on stance, muay thai a more square on stance. (this affects round kick defence, boxing punch dynamic, kick dynamic)
Sanda has longer ranged weaker faster round kicks, muay thai more powerful round kicks.
Sanda has a variety of kicks some high % many low %, Muay thai only specialises in a few very high % kicks.
Sanda has spinning side kicks, spinning heel kicks, axe kicks, push kicks, side kicks, round kicks, hook kicks, cresent kicks, other kicks, knees, and boxing punches.
Muay Thai has many variations of the round kick, push kicks, several variations of knee strike, and boxing punches. (no elbows under k1 rules)
The Sanda stance allows for the side kick to be used which is more powerful than the muay thai teep and more powerful than the real leg muay thai teep and it has the benifit of being up front and long ranged, and its slightly faster.
The sanda stance means it has a stronger rear cross punch, a weaker front hook punch, and a longer range jab. Muay thai has a stronger front arm hook punch since you can get your hips into it straight from the more square on stance, a faster but weaker rear cross due to less hip motion again due to the stance, and shorter ranged jab.
The sanda stance means spinning kicks e.g. spinning side kick, and spinning heel kick are faster and easier to use, again the side kick with the lead leg is easier to use. The front leg round kick looses alot of its power and the rear leg kick dosnt gain anything on the muay thai round kick in terms of power because its a weaker style of round kick.
