Sherbros I need some assistance. I've looked at the Steam website and followed every step available on their website, plus some of the forum posts.
I recently got my computer fixed and for some reason Steam refuses to update. Every single time it gets to either 5mb out of 97mb for the update or somewhere around 70-80 mbs of the 97mb before saying "Steam needs to be online to update, please check your network connection".
I've tried deleting and reinstalling, using ethernet instead of wi-fi, using the -tcp protocol to launch Steam, clearing out all the registry shit and restarting, starting in compatibility mode, restarting with no non-windows applications running...pretty much everything possible.
Absolutely nothing works. Every single time it gets stuck in an update loop. Does anyone have any experience with this problem and know of any sort of possible solution? Almost all of my games were purchased through Steam and as you know fucking Steam won't allow you to play any games offline.
Also - before I had my computer fixed (loose CPU fan) it would start up for a few minutes before shutting down. However, I was able to start and run Saints Row the Third (through Steam) as recently as two weeks ago. Now Steam refuses to run at all. Nothing has changed in the system or the network since then.
