Hi. Been lurking here for a while now, and have a question I've been wondering about for a bit now. Some background, did wrestling in high school, and have picked up muay thai as a hobby (and thinking about doing this on a amateur scale, limited though since I'm not a kid anymore).
I noticed that some guys at the gym have much more explosive kicks than I do, and I was wondering what the main reason was. I'm not talking about power (though that's also something they have over me), but instead how fast their shin reaches from point A to B. I understand the power comes from your core, as welll as turning the hip over, making sure the point of impact is good, the twist at the end, etc - but where does the explosiveness come from? Is that from having a good core, or really buff calves to launch your leg off the ground? Is it something else? If anyone can enlighten me I'd be grateful.
Anyway, I'll admit I'm fairly new to muay thai. My cardio and overall conditioning is still being worked on (two injuries so far kind of took me out for a while), so any input about my question would be great.
